The job’s not done yet.

That’s the mentality Anthony Barela had after absolutely scorching Brock Park on Saturday at the 2024 Disc Golf Pro Tour — Texas State Disc Golf Championships presented by Lone Star Disc to build a six-stroke lead.

The job is certainly not finished in FPO — far from it as Anniken Steen and Ohn Scoggins both turned in another stellar round of disc golf to share the lead heading into Championship Round. Right on their heels in Kristin Tattar, just three strokes back after a scorching day of her own in Houston.

Finishing the job will be a little easier for Barela after an absolute clinic 16-under, 1106-rated round on Saturday.

“I just cleaned up the holes I messed up yesterday (during a 10-under opening round) and made 16 putts,” a locked-in Barela said. “Disc golf felt easy today.”

Barela’s round, as it currently stands, is the highest-rated round at an Elite Series or Major since the 2019 PDGA World Championships when Ricky Wysocki and Eagle McMahon shot 1107 rounds. It’s the first 1100-plus round on the Elite Series since James Conrad (1101) a year ago at the Jonesboro Open.

Barela finished 100% in C2 in Regulation, with a 6.85 mark in strokes gained tee-to-green and went 11-for-12 from C1X with three makes from C2. He had 375 feet of total putts on Saturday, the third-highest total in the field on Saturday.

Barela’s lead is now six strokes over Ezra Aderhold, who followed with the second-hottest round of the day at 11-under. Aderhold’s round checks in at 1076 currently, his highest since the 2023 Las Vegas Challenge.

Gannon Buhr is eight strokes back in solo third and Mason Ford rounds out the lead card 10 strokes back at 16-under.

Earlier in the day, the lead-card nerves from Steen wore off quickly and she went back to work with a 10-under round to keep pace with Scoggins step-for-step and tie things up with one round to go.

A few cards ahead, Tattar was taking off with a 1024-rated 12-under round to jump seven spots into solo third place and three strokes back.

Steen remains the only player in the FPO without a bogey this weekend. She claimed the title of co-leader with a 100% rate in fairway hits and C2 in regulation. She also connected on four C2 putts, including one to close out her round.

Scoggins was Scoggins — more fairway hits and C1X putting as has been the case in 2024. She birdied four-straight after the turn and closed with three more.

A slow start — just 1-under through five holes — sparked Tattar from the third card. She ratted off seven straight and birdied nine of the last 10 holes, highlighted by a 70-foot connect on 17, which led to a fist pump from the World’s No. 1 as she firmly entered the conversation for the title.

The three have a little separation from the field. Sarah Hokom kept her spot on the lead card with a 5-under round and is 13-under through two rounds, seven off the pace and four behind Tattar.

The job is certainly far from finished in the Texas finale.
